hand primer will not pump fuel out of fuel filter.

Agree with above to make sure camshaft lobe is in right position to enable hand priming to take place..

    Engine mounts

I fitted a 2.5 N/A to my 80 last year and the vibration was pretty bad. I fitted genuine Defender mounts shortly afterwards and whilst there still is a bit of vibration it's 10 times better than it was before. I was advised to use genuine only. Glencoyne says so too and I bet that's the voice of...

    Cold starting. TD5

Have you tried a decent battery on it? I had similar with mine, apparently unless the battery is perfect TD5s can be bad starters first thing. I pooh poohed it at first until I put a new battery on mine. My old one (which I thought was ok) was obviously not good enough. See if you can borrow one...

TD5 Def not starting as well in the freezing cold

Hi, my 2001 Defender TD5 normally starts instantly first thing in a morning with little of no heat required. Lately it's been pretty cold here (below freezing) and I'm having to turn it over for a few seconds until it starts up. It sounds like its spluttering and stuggling to fire. Once started...

    N/a?

I've just fitted a 2.5 N/A into my Series One (purists look away now!) and really rate it. I knew the history of the donor vehicle this engine came from and knew it had been looked after for almost 20 years. Like previous posters have said they are pretty basic but reliable. Regular oil and...

Engine Change - DVLA want SO much Info!

I've just fitted a 2.5 N/A diesel engine into my series one and thought I'd better do the right thing and inform the DVLA by sending my V5 in with all the changes on. I also provided a receipt for the 2nd hand engine which I bought from a friend of mine who took it out of a 90 prior to fitting a...

2.5 N/A Diesel. Modifying the throttle linkage to cable

I've just put a good 2.5 N/A diesel out of an early 90 into my series one 80 replacing a series 3 petrol engine.I am a bit puzzled on what to do with the throttle. The 80 has the linkage, the 90 engine has a cable operated throttle. I have the cable for the diesel engine but need to join it...

    2.5 N/A Diesel into a series One 80

My non-standard 80 currently has a Series 3 petrol engine in it. I am planning on fitting a 2.5 N/A diesel engine I've got out of an early Ninety into it. . Would like a little more economy so I am tempted to use it more. I just wondered if anyone had already done this. I realise there will be a...

Greetings from a Series 1 and a Series 3 Owner!

New to this forum but not new to Landrovers, I've been running them for years. My current fleet consists of a 80'' Series One and a Series 3 SWB Station Wagon. Both are currently on the road and the latter is my current daily hack and is fitted with a V8. Only got it last month and am smitten...
