Apprentice mechanic when there really were such things as apprenticeships! Time served on BL, so I got to mend cars quite a lot, rather than just fitting new bits all the time. Grew up, got a job selling Allegros, grew up some more and got a job mending Vauxhalls, then Fords. Came to my senses and got a nice warm office job dealing with garages which didn’t have a clue about customers or repairing cars. Grew old and now I get to buy lots of labour and parts from over 6000 garages in the UK
If it doesn't make a noise and drip oil I don't want to know. Preferably, it should have wheels of some sort.

- Once upon a time it was a series 3 88 inch 21/4 petrol Land Rover with OD, now it's a P38A Range Rover Vogue 4.6. It's quieter, faster, more comfortable and better on petrol. Oh how things have changed, I do miss moving all the levers though.
