hi Neil, I did reset the system, I have the iCarsoft gizmo for reading and erasing trouble codes. Have you tried resetting the steering angle sensor by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock a few times with the engine running? cheers Rick

@chicken @Saint.V8 - yes I have looked at the site and the vid. He used Arnott units which have the big o-rings captive and there's no mention of top seals at all. My unit is OEM-style ie without the aluminium top section so needed the lower o-rings fitting manually. It seems the job of sealing...

I rode my luck in the end - there wasn't time to pull the camshafts and give them the squeeze test. All's well, though, it runs more quietly than I can recall. Now I just need to sort out an air leak from one of the front struts (have started a new thread here). Probably my bad but I can't work...

Got it off! Thanks everyone for the advice - holding tool, 3/4" t-bar and about 5' of scaffold pole did the trick. Now for the timing chain guides and to locate any dodgy lifters. Does anyone know where to get second hand lifters? I see sets of many on eBay but shouldn't need more than a couple...

Right, 3/4" T-bar and holding tool are ordered and on the way. Chicken, those don't look like the standard bolts, are they some sort of high tensile thing?

Jeepers, you broke the bar or the socket or both? Has anyone ever even heard of successfully undoing one of these with impact?
