Yesterday i got the underseal waxy oil off - nasty job. What made it worse is what i found underneath... Surprisingly the rear cross-member is decent. However there is a small hole smaller than a 10p on the subframe rigger, drivers side - i really dont want to get a mobile welder out to sort...

So the defender is here! Drove 200 miles without fault really... gears, brakes, engine seem very good. Obviously we dont have a reference point but they worked well! Got back, ripped the carpets out and cleaned the engine bay a little... It did have a fair bit of oil... now i should be able to...

Thank you all for your thoughts... Wont sway from a soft top! Security and practicability don't go hand in hand with a defender anyway so it shouldn't be too dissimilar to a hard top! Will update again over the weekend when inspection and work begins!
