Reporting in late.
Yesterday afternoon I took the Rangie for its MOT. Totally clean on emissions.
Mr. Tapley was happy with the brakes and all the lights and horns work.
So a clean pass with no advisories. :D
Thinking about the event that led to the red and yellow warning triangles coming on, it was after a fast non-stop drive for over 200 miles, then a good uphill climb. After the lights came on and the low engine power warning, there was a burning...
I know when they regen buses it is usually done it's static. The amount of smoke it can produce gets the public worried, especially in a crowded bus station. I speak from experience.
I was actually getting just over 30mpg at EU motorway speeds. Going home from here is downhill most of the way to Liege, and have managed to get the clock to show 99mpg for quite a distance. :) When it runs..
I think the garage man is proposing...
My son had similar DPF errors on his previous Jag XF. Most of his journeys at the time were 4-5 miles twice a day to & from work. Regular blasts up the M40 after his girlfriend moved to Buckingham cleared it with no garage visit required.
I have a similar problem with my 2011 TDV8, see my "broken down in Belgium" thread! I mentioned on there that a lot of the modern buses I drive have this problem and they do a regen on them which involves running the engine at high revs for about...
Latest update, I wish I'd found this garage earlier! The car is now at Erezée. They've found there's a section of the long fan belt about 4cm long and 1cm wide has been flapping around and may have caused a bit of wiring damage. Until they get...
Just back from the local garage at Erezee, a vey helpful chap there, speaks English as well which is a rarity in Wallonie. He's arranged a recovery truck to get the car from the dealer, who say they've got no idea when they can even look at the...
Sounds a bit like a problem I used to have on Leyland Hydracyclic gearboxes on buses. The valves would get blocked with cack and stick. Luckily they are extenally fitted and easy to remove and clean out. Regular oil filter changes helped. but I...
An update, no I'm not on the road with the Range Rover. The car was eventually taken to a dealer at Waimes who had a slot they could fit it into. But, the recovery truck didn't manage to get it there in time, so it's still sitting there with no...
Thanks, it may be of help to them, but as they are an approved dealer they "ought" to know, but every little bit helps. It seems you have to take off the fan belt to change the main one.
The next delay will be the European recovery agent...
The local garage can't do anything or at least 2 weeks! But, I contacted a LR specialist near Malmedy who ISTR using about 14 years ago when a previous car blew up its torque converter. They can look at the car tomorrow and do the belt, thy've...
Having wasted more time on the phone today, a friend from Luxembourg called in at the recovery truck place at Houffalize. Haad a lengthy chat with matey there who explained that the fan belt had lost about a third of its width at one point and...
After more hours hanging on the phone to the UK breakdown people, we've all tried various LR garages in the area. Most have closed down for the summer holidays, they won't re-open for another 2 weeks! There's an offer to repatriate the car in...
Thanks for all the advice. Whichever way it's a dilemma! The simple answer is to get it recovered home. But even that is hassle.
When I hd the oil cooler replaced just after I got the car I was advised then that the big turbo pipes were rather...
If that main belt is "sealed for life" as they say, the car's done about 148,000 miles (235,000km I remember) that I suspect is the usual "life" for these cars. Those who can afford a new one do so.
OK thanks for that help. Come to think of it, there's been a ticking noise for quite while. the recovery truck driver saw a bit peeling off the belt, the big, huge fiddly one. What concerned me was the red triangle light coming on along with the...
There's 2 belts, the main accessories belt and the fan belt. Not done it but you don't need to take the whole front off.. you can do it but it's fiddly. Apparently
Quite, my other half has this thing about "tidying up" and not knowing where she's put my stuff, most annoying. I doubt it's brakes binding, the rears have only been on the car a couple of weeks, the fronts were serviced and freed off at the same...
Sadly I don't have the handbook with me, it's at home "somewhere" tidy! I reckon it could well have been gearbox overheat, there was a bit of burning smell at the top of the hill, but that's normal for everything on that road. Maybe low on...
I've not come across that, I'm used to the normal V belts and multi-groove belts used on buses! It seems to me that to replace the belt the whole front end has to come off. What else is driven off that belt, and I wonder what cause the red and...
As you may have read in another thread, I'm currently stuck in the Wallonie part of Belgium with the 4.4TDV showing with what I suspect is the fan belt about to fall apart . does anyone have any contact detail or recommendation for garage in the...
It's just over a year since my trusty 08 reg engine blew up, a couple of weeks having spent a fortune getting the brakes and suspension joints done. te next 2, 1 was disastrous, the next a Sport was ok but cracked wheels were costing a fortune...
It's a common design which I see a lot on bus air brake components. It'll be a thin O ring. If you ccn slacken the 2 halves and get in there with a sliding vernier it should be possible to get the internal diameter. But without that measurement I...
It would be unusual to have 2 O rings facing each other. It you can find the size I've got hundreds here and will happily send you one. Bemble might know if he's still around.
