When the front went, it made horrible clonking noises from onw side when turning on tight locks. The rear went in a car park. No obvious warnoig. I now wonder if the garage just doesn't know and wants rid of the vehicle.

I lost drive to front wheels at first. Put it into diff lock which gave my drive through rear. It packed up on way to garage to have front looked at.

My 1992 Disco was hauled away on a truck the other day after I lost drive. I've just been to the garage who have diagnosed both front and rear diffs are shot. Does this sound possible? If it is possible, is it terminal for such an old vehicle? Your help and advice is highly valued.

Thanks for that. I did as you stated. Put it in gear with handbrake off. Front propshaft turns and rear does not. This means a problem at the front then. Not so simple to fix?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the vehicle is a '92 Discovery. Hope this makes no differnce.

Thank you once again for your valued advice. I have read the link in detail and have found it very interesting. When the rear half shaft snapped on my old 88, the propshaft still spun whilst in gear. My propshaft does not spin in gear and with the handbrake off. Does this still lend itself...

Thank you all very much. I will look at the half shafts first. I had this problem on an old series 2a years ago. Is it a difficult thing diagnose and fix?

New member, hello I have an old series 1 TDi, which is great, but it jumped out of gear today whilst reversing. Now wont drive in normal high or low ratio, but will drive in diff lock. Is this a major tranfer box problem or something simple? Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
