I have a three door hard top with dog guard fitted. it can be taken in and out with the roof on. It is tight getting it over the seat hold back pins but I guess it stops it rattling. My targa roof bag was stuffed in the boot not attached to the guard and the previous owner paid £70 fitting fee.

Definatelly replace the stressed bolts the specified torque takes them into the yeild zone by design so should not be used again. They are torqued not finger...

My clutch has just failed, the good book tells me to remove the IRD and then drop the gearbox. I am wondering if the IRD can be left bolted in place and drop box off both engine and IRD saving a lot of work.
Anyone have experience with this?

The K series has to be stripped and rebuilt 90 degrees BTDC to prevent the valves hitting pistons. you cannot rotate the engine with the head off as the liners will move.
Thats why I am struggling to prove the timing. I was hoping to have found somthing I might have missed as a common problem...

I have checked valve timing against pison position and all lines up BUT the pully wheel mark is 180 degrees out from the tdc mark on the belt cover. I am trying to get mt head around the idea that this would effect the crank ingition sensor.

The nutral position for all four cylinder to protect the valves works out to 90 degrees before top dead centre.
I have dopped a little oil in each bore for a second compession check but only had a 10 psi improvement.

I used an all singing and dancing elastomer gasket set complete with shim with the elastomer against the head in acordance with MF instructions.

I have a 1800 Freelander bought to repair, it will not start probably becuase of ignition problems.
Despite a skimmed head I have quite a low compression, this is even across all cylinders and a drop of oil does not make a significant difference.
Anyone got any ideas?
