Many thanks for this detailed response - very helpful, I'll follow up your suggestions. Since posting the thread we've been investigating potentially getting wheel spacers fitted (and probably new bolts I suppose in order to cope with the additional length required and still have the wheel nuts...

Hi - I need to get some snow chains for my Freelander 2 (the French now require them if you are going into the mountains apparently) - the trouble seems to be that I have 19" alloys fitted and there will not be enough clearance around the wheel for the snow chains to be fitted - hence Land Rover...
