    Thanks for the info. I think what's happened with mine is that the OE choke cable has been replaced with an ordinary cable and the warning light switch has just been left hanging in mid-air!

    Thanks very much to everyone who replied. Very helpful...... I now know what it is. It also solves another problem, ie. my choke warning light is always on, even when the choke is fully in. So now I will figure out a way of reconnecting this switch so the light works properly.

    No, it's the 4 cylinder engine, but it does have a choke warning light.
