Freelander 2 (LR2) PTU reconditioning Recommendations

Hey Artic2, I used the good old fashioned phone and called Austin from Bell engineering to sort one out in the end. To do it yourself you would would need a proper locking tool to withstand at least a 1.5m bar to torque up the pinion preload

Freelander 2 (LR2) PTU reconditioning Recommendations

I have tried to rebuild the PTU but failed on the pinion preload as you need to fabricate a tool from an old drive flange and a 41mm socket. It was worth a punt to save a few quid and got to see inside the PTU. I ended up using bell engineering bit more expensive but you get what you pay for...

Freelander 2 (LR2) PTU reconditioning Recommendations

Not yet @Arctic2 I have brought a bearing kit and hoping the splines are all in good shape to save a few quid. If I pull it apart and it's scrap I'm not sure what plan b is yet.

Thanks Nodge68, that's my gut feel go to at the moment, bit more expensive but you get what you pay for. I was tempted to do this myself but as a main vehicle in the house and the spline wear issue it's not worth the hassle. I may just take it apart before exchanging.

Freelander 2 (LR2) PTU reconditioning Recommendations

Hi all I thought I would pop a poll in for recommendations on places to supply a front PTU for my FL2 2013 SD4. I have found two places near me which look good and seem decent on the phone. Obviously not using any of them before has anyone had any good or bad experiences. Or have I missed a...

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Auto slight jerk when pulling away

I replaced all the PAS hoses and reservior on my FL2 about a month ago and the high pressure o ring blew. That will teach me using ebay non genuine. Bodged it back up with two new o rings as the seal groove would fit 2 o rings. If it goes again it's being swapped out for some genuine hoses. I...

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Auto slight jerk when pulling away

Just a quick update as I think I may have solved the clunking issue. When I brought the car in April all the brakes and discs had been changed so as you would expect all was fine with the brakes. I my way back home last week there was metal to metal grinding on the rear RH side. When I stripped...

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Auto slight jerk when pulling away

Thanks Hippo, that makes sense it does feel like a slight delay going back into drive after releasing the brakes.

Yeah that's what I have been doing as a work around as it only plays up over 10 seconds above stationary idle foot on the brake.

Thas correct Hippo, drive selected foot on the brake and it clunk's on release. Only happens when its warm.

I also have the same issue gearbox shifts fine until warm and long journeys, if you sit in traffic go to pull away it will clunk very harshly. I have carried out a full autobox flush and it shifts great on short journeys no problems but I still get the clunk when warm. There is another post by...
