Sorry forgot mention it's diesel. I believe the engine problem is linked because it occurs at the exact speed and time that the Tc locks up. It's fine at all other speeds. It's like it's stuttering between the two revs before and after lock up. If that makes sense.

Ive had a problem for a while where ive had a slight vibration on the change up to top gear (automatic). Its generally at about 52mph and seemed worse under hard accelaration. It was like going over a cattle grid and only lasted a second or two. I Listened to advice on here and checked oil...

Thought so, my final question would be can a torque converter affect a particular gear or is my problem likely to be my actual gearbox.

But if it was a uj, diff, drive shaft etc wouldn't that affect al gears not just 4th

Can't say I've noticed that. Seems to be directly under me. I tried today locking it in 3 rather than D and accelerated to 60 ish. No sign of the vibration.

I changed the oil and filter about a year ago. Only done about 6000 miles since then. I did change the viscous coupling about 3 months ago. I torqued the nut up to the correct n/m but I forgot to use thread lock. Have you heard of them coming undone.

Any one with knowledge on this? I saw a post a while back which matched my symptoms but I'm buggered if I can find it now. The problem was very minor but is definitely getting worse. There are no problems in 1,2 or 3rd but when I get into 4th gear at just above 50mph I get a very hard vibration...

I can also recommend promec near llantrisant. I try to do most jobs myself but when I'm stuck I go here.

Thanks very much for all the advice. Due to time restraints and a journey from South Wales to Newcastle on Sunday I've bitten the bullet and taken it to a very good independent specialist near bye. Hopefully they can find the fault but I'm already watching a few auctions on ebay.

I've just swapped nears side and offside sensors and the eas unlock suite is still reading front left fault and only 6 when I click the get height tab. I take it that leads me to the ecu.
