It's fine once it's running and warm, just when I first start it when cold. Would a diagnostic pick up the problem?

:D I've been and brought some fuel cleaner hoping it would help, seemed to run fine and thought the problem had gone. Gone to go out in it again and it felt like the engine was going to jump out of the bonet :(

My vogue v8 td 2006 plate has started to splutter when first starting from cold. Any ideas what it could be. Hubby's not too pleased as always said they are a money pit, so you can imagine what it's like in our household !! Thank you
