I had a very similar problem with my 97 300tdi discovery, problems with immobilser and c/locking turned out to be green alarm ecu amr6429 i think.ended up replacing the green box and matching fob. problem solved. I did post a thread on it.

I think a compression test tomorrow and re-check tappets, as you say it could well be boiling off the water left in the engine from the previous cracked head. I will post an update tomorrow.

done around 10 miles today with the new head, tappets are spot on, it`s never sounded so good.

Hello, got a problem with smoke coming from the dipstick and oil filler cap on my 97 300tdi discovery. Would anyone know what could cause this??

It was ignorance that led me to post this here, in fact its ignorance that leads me to do most things. I wondered why i didn`t recieve an awful lot of help with this. I thought the gods were maybe calling for me to go it alone. Next time i will post in the discovery forum!!!

Also checking main fuse board today one of the fuse terminals on fuse5 satellite 1 reads 12v and with the fuse removed i get 5v on the other side??? These readings are with the ignition switched on. Ideas??? Anyone??

It is a discovery and evrything you have mentioned controlled by the multifunction unit is playing up. Will have a look at it on the morrow. Many thanks
