KV6 Freelander, no drive in any gear! 2WD conversion

Back to old skool basics. When you mated the transmission up to the engine did it slip on the splines ALL the way to the block. That is the block and the bell housing should just about touch without any forcing. If it was any more than a few millimeters and you drew it together with the mounting...

If you can wrench a bit, get it apart and see what is needed. I just rebuilt mine. Not as difficult as it made out to be.

    reverse lights help

First thing I would do is unplug the reverse switch connector to narrow it down to the switch. Remember, just because it is new does not mean it is good. (old spark plug rule) Put a circuit tester on the switch and see if it is switching.

I'm planning on making a mechanical replacement for the VCU!

The VW syncro van guys managed to develop one. Of course they have the "advantage" of having the syncro located inside a secondary bell housing. google "vanagon syncro decoupler"

    help help help

Not sure if everyone is aware of this but the Pajero is not called Pajero in most Spanish speaking lands because the word " Pajero" is the Spanish equivalent of the good old English "****ER". I understand now why they called it such. :D

    Winter tyres

Went out in the first real snow of this year here in Sweden. About 100 mm (4 inches) of unplowed snow. I put a set of Star Performer SPTS AS 215/65 R16 102H XL Cheap tyre but made by Nankang. Traction control or ABS did not kick in once during a 100km back road trip. Could not be more pleased...

    Winter tyres

I had to do that "halkbana" course. It is something everyone should at least have the option to do. Not just educational but what a riot!

    Winter tyres

BFG probably changed the compound to get better wear after then. It IS a legal requirement to have winter approved tyres here in Sweden from Dec1st till Mar 31st. Trust me if you don't have at least M&S rubber you DO NOT want to be driving here if it snows. So far this year it has been pretty...

    Winter tyres

We are allowed to use studs here from oct 1st till April 15th. I live out in the boonies and the wifey has them on her FWD. Adds a whole new dimension to traction when you hit ice. Not really so pleasant on dry tarmac though, but not a lot of that around here this time of year. :D about 6...

    Winter tyres

This link is in Swedish for tyhe intro but the tyres are all standard brand names. This is the list of aproved tyres for use in winter in Sweden. It is law that they are fitted from Dec1 till 31 Mar here. If you have never driven on real snow tyres in the snow you can not get close to...

New VCU where to buy from.

You may want to take the "feeling like the brakes are on at full lock" with a small grain of salt. How much it feels like the brakes are on will depend on how fast you are driving it in the turn. Also it should be noted that if you have spacers on the wheels it will increase the radial distance...

New VCU where to buy from.

I just put a new one from Island 4x4 on mine. Been on for about a month. No problems. It appears to be a new genuine GKN. No sign of it being a recon'd one. If you buy a "LR" one it will be the same as the one from Island 4x4 as GKN is the original supplier.
