In the winter it is always damp, not wet inside. i think the main problem this time of year it only gets 1.5 miles of driving each end of the day. O rings are OK. if there is a leak it would be from a window seal possibly. i do intend to get a backup BECM just in case. When buying a used BECM...

It's sorted
Just befoore posting i disconnected battery again and as it was damp and cold inside from not a lot of use over the past week, i put a fan heater inside, facing becm. Left it for an hour a it restarted.

Hi all
1998 P38 diesel wont start
Symptoms
door locks work
position 2 on key switch and no lights on dashboard , only SRS light on
start position and nothing happens
headlights, windows all work battery is good
Tried disconnecting and re connecting battery still the same
Any ideas?

I think that is a reference to two items, lift sensor incorporated into No 4 injector, and sensor picking up flywheel speed. Rear of engine same side as injector pump

I would say if you don't do your own repairs don't touch one. If you do be prepared to lose a few weekends throughot the year fixing nigling problems. They don't have to cost a lot in parts but can use up a lot of workshop hours

Can't you return the battery? You just need them to order the correct type. My local small factors had 4 in stock when i bought mine

I Don't think he's having trouble with the taper it's where the end screws onto the rod that's seized. But i could be wrong

I got an almost identical problem but with the rear. Doesn't happen imediatly after start up but putting the headlights on will kick it off, rear pump then runs.
