What have you done to your Landie today.

Undercoat on the new drivers footwell, just about got the landy covered over before it started to rain.

Series 3 Shocker! What to use with parabolics?

Thanks for the input folks, I will keep my eye out for a set of 1 ton shocks I think. At the moment it is just the chassis sprinhs and axles, no motor or body etc. The thing that concerns me is that, even with no weight on, the springs still have more droop to go. Even though I don't plan on...

Series 3 Shocker! What to use with parabolics?

Evening all, I'm part way through a chassis swap on my Series Bitsa. The new chassis has parabolics on (which are staying) My original shocks don't fit, they are too short when fully extended. The consensus seem to be the Pro Comp extended shocks. I've had a good look with the search function...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Pulled the props and handbrake off the S3. All to be cleaned up and ready to transplant onto the new chassis. Though I mightbjabe to wait a little before the props make it across, a gearbox might be useful 1st!

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

More progress! Drivers footwell and bulkhead foot are finally welded in. A little more dressing to do, but its only cosmetic. Turns out that the new footwell, despite being quite an expensive one, wasn't bent up square. It needed a bit or modifying to get the inside edge to match up so that the...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Slow but steady progress over the week. Limited now to a few hours in the evening, picking and packing in a warehouse now to get some pennies coming in. The drivers footwell is nearly done. Clutch pedal cleaned up and painted and the master cleaned and flushed. It's all in pretty good nick...

Series 3 yet another brake problem

A good way to check the actual contact patch is to rub chalk all over the inside of the drum. Replace it and rotate with the linings set to so you can turn the drum with moderate effort. Then pull it off and have a look at the linings. I'm new to landys, but if your brakes are single leading...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Well, I needn't have bothered the bunnies last night. My shooting partner got one but, thanks to a vixen and her cub, a fallow deer, masses of owls and some idiot leaning on his car horn at 01:00, I didnt see a single damned rabbit! Still, it was worth the trip to watch the wildlife. Onto the...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

A few more things done today. Finalised the brake pupe and clipped it on the chassis with some neat little p-clips, drilled and tapped the chassis for 2ba screws for the clips, and sheathed any potential rub points with a bit of plastic tube. No more brake pipe until the bulkhead with the...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

I've had a good butchers and a think, and I'm going to join the pipes with a decent joiner where the pedal should be. Meaning that if in the future I want/have to fit one, the pipes are already flared there and ready to go. It turns out we had a reservoir cap with a float in it from a Mk2...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

A bit more fiding so far today, but rain has stopped play. I've swapped the rear slave cylinders around to their correct sides. Turns out that the new chassis has new drums and linings in there (result!) bur the snail cams are quite worn - although they aren't seized and the bushes are good. So...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

To delete the PWDA, am I right in thinking that I just connected the pipes from the master to the corresponding front/rear pipes? If so, I just need 2 t-piece joiners and thats that.

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

I've reath this about the valve in a few places now - typically only after I had plumbed it in! What is involved in getting rid of the valve? What plumbing needs to be done?

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Slow slow slow progress, but at least it is a bit of progress.. More cleaning and painting of various bits and bobs, but the battery box has been a bit of a bugger. It didn't fit the new chassis so has needed welding and re-drilling. Started cleaning it up, but its been plastic coated at some...

Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

Cheers :) I'll be honest, my Dad got most of the paint off the top a few years ago, so I'm not sure. But probably paint stripper, a scraper then scotchbrite. On the underside I used thinners, a scraper and scotchbrite, with a fine sanding block with t-cut to finish off. It will stay bare, just...
