    P38A Handbrake Switch

Hi. I seem to have a strange fault on my handbrake warning light on my '97 4.6 HSE. The bulb is fine, and I've checked the switch which is fine. When I leave the handbrake on and then start the engine, the light is okay. release the handbrake and the light goes off. Pull up the handbrake, no...

What made you decide to change the original one?

    A/C again

It would seem that the issue may be connected to road or engine speed, as I have noticed that when I slow at junctions or such like the A/C temp gets warmer. When I pull away and get cruising it comes back cool.

    A/C again

It gets cool shortly after starting. The issue happens while driving. On a 15klm journey it will happen about 2 - 3 times. I'm now monitoring when it happens to see if there is any link to road speed, engine speed or other possible situation. Drains are clear, judging by the water dripping from...

    A/C again

I've just replaced the entire A/C system on my '97 P38 4.6 HSE, except the temp sensors and evaporator which I thoroughly flushed out. Vacuum was good and charging went well. I now have a situation where I occasionally get muggy outside air for about two minutes before it returns to cool. I did...

Air Con works for 10 mins then stops

Moisture in the system mixes with the oil and becomes corrosive. Bye bye A/C! You should have seen the s**t that came from my evaporator when I flushed it through. Took 5 gallons of white spirit to clean out all the crud.

Air Con works for 10 mins then stops

I strongly suggest you get this done properly. For a few years I had my gas topped up whenever the A/C temp started to get a little less cool, and eventually the system ran almost dry of oil due to it leaking out with the gas. I've just replaced everything apart from the evaporator which I...

    P38 - Air conditioning drainage

Push your fingers up between the foot well air vent and carpet. if it's damp and smells of glycol it's the O rings. Should also be green (or whatever colour your coolant is) if you blot it with a paper towel. Stuff a paper towel up between the air vent and carpet and see if it gets wet.

    A/C Question

The lengths we go to to keep these beauties going!!! Worth every penny. Give me a P38 any day.

    A/C Question

Good news, found a brand new safety valve in the Netherlands!

    A/C Question

Yup, got it. But the parts catalogue contradicts the change points for the pipes (which seem to be both the same anyway). Hence the confusion. And the later compressor in the parts catalogue is totally different to the one I have and the one I'm replacing (Sedan 3204E). I need to put something...

    A/C Question

Thanks, but this is not the correct part. I already have this pressure switch. After further investigation, it seems the part numbers in the catalogue are incorrect. The hose which takes the safety valve is BTR9543, and below it there is the O ring STC3112 and valve BTR9229. However, the...

    A/C Question

Yes, I did bother to read it, thanks. I'm not sure what you are suggesting. I have a later pipe? No, I have a brand new, correct for my vehicle, genuine one which should take the valve. I also have a new, correct for my vehicle, Sedan compressor, the same as the one I've removed. I have no idea...

    A/C Question

The pipe is the same, with the receptical for the valve. I just can't find the valve in the parts catalogue. Seems a few components are becoming obsolete. I couldn't even get a genuine condenser........."obsolete". The only OEM I could get was for Gulf States!!!
