Hi Dave - I did wonder if the engine mounts could have failed. Unfortunately the car now belongs to my son who lives 125 mls away. I'll check asap. The gear box mounts are OK, I had them off when I changed the g/box sump when the first pipe failed. Thanks for the tip. OldDiscMan

An engine with a turbocharger compensates for high altitude, it turns faster due to the lower atmospheric pressure, that's why you didn't notice any loss of performance. The ECU will have some effect however in keeping the smoke level correct. OldDiscoMan

Because there are too many people who haven't a clue how to tighten bolts/nuts. I've seen to many amateurs over tighten with resulting rounded heads and stripped threads. Look at the number of timing belt idler retaining bolt failures!

Picked up the parts today, the cost was a lot less than quoted, about £230 instead of £336, still criminal though. A pig of a job to fit, N/S gearbox mount needs to come off! Even worse was the 'high up' bell housing bolt, a b****r to remove, and as tight as hell. Had to bend the pipe to fit...

No! - The prop had no reference marks, hence the task of trying each spline, the splines are coated with a black substance 'Teflon'??. There was no wear on the splines and anyway a well lubricated spline won't wear. This vehicle has only done 83,000 miles and the props are greased every 6,000...

They're supposed to be. If you take the prop off you'll find it will only fit into one spline. I tried mine in every other spline until it got back to where it started - it fell in!! I'm told the reason is that the shaft not only goes 'Down' it goes slightly sideways. OldManDisco
