norseman replied to the thread L322 TD6 Engine Cover Grommet.
Yes it's a question of knowing where to look. I wanted a mudflap clip for my old 5 series & couldn't find anything after hours trawling the web .. turned out the the same component was used on Jaguars built in the late 'nineties so I bought a...

norseman replied to the thread Binnacle repair companies.
Any reviews about their service ? Seems a large variation in prices between the 2 of them. £250 is not a lot for a competent company's technology & time these days .. I had the alphanumeric ribbon (no instruments) replaced on my old 5 series...

Then kid yourself that you've done an oil change .. must remember to change the filter next time  Presumably the manuf. choose this daft set-up because they know people wont bother/haven't the time to open the bonnet & dip the oil, so...

norseman posted the thread long reach in Range Rover.
Can anyone who has removed/installed the instrument panel housing in a 'eighties RR Classic tell me the socket size needed for the nuts (4 off) that secure the housing to the facia? The last time I did this job I figured it would be much easier...

What vehicle, petrol or diesel? My crystal ball has gone a bit cloudy.

norseman replied to the thread 200/300TDI exhaust brake?.
I used exhaust brakes on HGV's decades ago with varying degrees of success, depending on the veh. manuf. You need a large piston surface area & relatively high engine revs for an EB to be effective.

Don't they just! I had one give up years ago on a 109 .. sounded like the 'box was coming apart
  • norseman
I don't know if this is any help as mine is a RRC V8 with the ECU under the driver's seat, accessible from the rear after sliding the seat fully forwards. First pull the multi-pin plug free at the end where the lead attaches & swing the plug...

It's always the passenger side on my P38's that fail. I put it down to lack of use allowing time for the contacts to corrode. Never a problem with the drivers side but the switches for the rear windows also play up from time to time.
  • norseman
If the primary concern is mpg then get a fiesta? If you're using it because nothing else will do the job.. your worrying about 1 or 2 mpg???

norseman replied to the thread Classic Lecky window.
Cheers D. Of the four RRC's I've owned only two (inc. this one) have experienced this problem & on both occasions it's been the NSF .. you'd think the driver's door would be the most likely, given it's usage. I always 'exercise' the windows that...

I'd say that at 121K the speedo has done well & now had it's day. I shall be renewing the second-hand unit in my Classic this year, despite the cost :(

Forgot to ask in my reply .. what's the mileage on the clock?

Anything, but not WD40, it's a Water Dispersant not a lubricant, it leaves a gummy deposit.
  • norseman
Exactly what mine did at bang-on 63K miles. Attempts to have it repaired failed due to lack of parts as this era of instrument falls between the old fashion 'clocks & modern digital. You could try to source a second-hand one, depending on how...

Hi guys, my front passenger window has always worked without fault, but having been opened/closed the other day now shows no sign of working. Don't think it's a fuse as the one controls all four motors, though it could be a the switch I suppose...

norseman replied to the thread fuel consumption p38 4.6.
Short runs with their associated cold starts are a killer. I once had a 3.5 efi auto that returned 7mpg (brim-to-brim check) because I had no choice but to use the car for a week of 5 mile single journeys in the middle of winter.

FWIW there's a couple of things that might be worth checking. Are you sure the dizzy pick up is working, is the air gap correct? If the pick up isn't working, the ignition amplifier won't switch. Setting the air gap for the reluctor is easy as is...

I considered one of these beasts, despite the high asking prices, right up to getting the chance to climb into the saddle of a RHD version .. I'm only 5'10'' but I found the driving position very cramped. Good luck with the sale.

I have a 3.5 EFI & employed a remote amp from PS that failed after a month. Not impressed by the company's insistence in replacing the item rather than agreeing to a refund. I did some research & purchased a Lucas (yes I know ..) which exhibited...

Decades ago I would have said 'why not' but linking in to today's complex vehicle electronics could see your instrument panel light up like a Christmas tree  But then I'm not a sparky, so waiting for informed advice would be a good idea.

I think bringing in an MOT or safety check for historic is a great idea. Being over 40 years old doesn't remove the need to keep the vehicle road worthy, something you confirm each year by signing the tax form, and yet so many old Land Rovers...

The Wilks Bros had the pre production run chassis galvanised. Rover dropped it on cost grounds and the thought that the "Land Rover" would only be a gap filler until other post war car design's came along. The Prototype Land rover was based on...

I've used their engine oil in my late 'nineties 5 series BMW for the past few years, the product meets all BM's specs. & is competitive on price. Just ordered it again for a forthcoming service.

I agree with most, but not all, the comments already made about Series LR of which I have owned 5 over the decades. By far their worst fault is that 90-odd percent of them are rot-boxes. The Wilks Bros. may well have copied the American Jeep...
