Tickover is pretty low if I remember correctly. I would get it all running and driving nicely before considering changing the distributor, never found points a problem.

And economy, from my experience. You get more instant power too, or perhaps that translates to more low down torque

Good on uncle Stan, SS fuel tanks aren't cheap to buy. A new carb, ignition and timing check should get her idling nicely.

Looks like the webber kit comes with an inline fuel filter too, so that's also going on. :)

Although you have the glass filter bowl on the lift pump we fitted an inline filter , cheap enough.

Zenith carbs are prone to warping but can be sanded flat again I do believe. Webber carb was £120 at the time so wasn't worth faffing around, sold the worn out Zenith for rebuild.
