Ok, update time. Problem now solved, I did have a very dodgy connection where the loom had been spliced to the tow bracket wiring, all sorted now. Even spotted my reverse lamp also not working so I have fixed that too Have to say the bulb holders are not great on defenders

Ok, will check at the switch and also try fresh earth if I’m getting 12v at the switch .

How did you know it was input shaft bearing? Was it obviously loose?? Or some other tell tale sign
