I had a similar problem, the connections block at the headlight had melted, found a porcelain replacement on eBay, think it was about £8 for 2. Solved problem and future recurrences :)

Not sure, about ecu, but bear in mind the rear wiper doesn't work with the drivers door open for some reason, that confused me, made me think there was a problem a while back?! Discovered this after a lot of checking fuses wires motors etc.....arse

The surround around the gear lever pops off (carefully, small screwdriver tabs front and back) in there u will find 2 bulbs, one for each side these light the letters from beneath 1.2 volt if I remember right.
