Thanks nrgserv, I really appreciate the offer. Looking at the pics, I think it may be a Rover type - I don't think I'll be able to properly check it before the weekend. I'm going to try welding a bar onto the flange nut to try and pull it while turning! I'll keep you posted!

Yes, that's exactly what I thought! I was aware of the stretcher tool thing - but I don't think it has the removable diff pan, so it might be a Rover? Thanks for the offer of support. Brian

Hi nrgserv, I've only just seen your post about the tool - thanks for the offer, although looks like I won't be needing this time.

The gearbox output nut was fine. I disconnected the prop, ran it in gear and there was no binding - so it looks like it's the diff - I was going to take it out but was thwarted by a stripped drive flange bolt - so I will have to wait and tackle that another day. By the way, does anyone know how...
