The usual Disco TD5 injector seals for me yesterday after a day or 2 struggling to start the green monster. Going by the state of the rest of the Disco as I've been clambering around it since I bought it, I doubt the injector seals have ever been replaced...
As it turned out, I found out once I...

It's not just the money...this disco has taken enough of my blood through spanner rash to be considered a legal relative

Next MOT for the money pit is in February for me...and there's no way it'll be ready by then. The previous owner(s) have rounded off, snapped or sheared every possible allen screw, bolt or fitting imaginable so just taking things off has become a test of endurance...not to mention my patience...

Very nice job indeed.
I couldn't get mine into the garage to do anything today...wind was in the wrong direction. That may seem strange, but up here with winter storms every couple of days, I can't get the big garage doors open when it's blowing a north easter...or if I did, I wouldn't be able...

There's always 2 or more trains of thought on the diff lock thing...my own is that Land Rover took away the diff lock lever after they introduced ATC for a reason, otherwise they'd just have left the diff lock option on the hi/lo transfer lever as it was instead of effectively disabling the...
-
Yeah, it was only my rough understanding of what they both do and making assumptions based on that...complicated stuff...a bit like understanding epicyclic gearboxes :D
-
They took the centre diff lock levers off the D2's when they introduced ATC...they'd both end up fighting with eachother in the end. A proper hi/lo/diff-lock lever from a 300 tdi with the linkage intact and you should be able to enable the diff lock on a D2, the gearbox mounts and fittings are...

Aye...my Disco's previous owner isn't going to be on my Xmas card list any time soon either. I spent an hour with a 9lb sledge hammer and a block of wood beating the rear wheels off the hubs today just to change the disks and pads. Alloy wheels and steel hubs never mix well unless you fire at...

Lol...me too. Either that from On the buses... or Wallace and Grommit ;)

It's a Russian Ural 750 cc...a direct copy of the WW2 BMW R71's which the Russians made under license for the Germans before they broke the non aggression pact and invaded in 1941. I also had a Dnepr 750 with a sidecar at one time...Ukrainian rather than Russian, it had proper 2WD having a...

I was a proper biciclist for most of my life...a shared passion with the missus. She took seriously ill last year though and isn't able to get on the back nowadays...kinda took the fun out of it for me, I've never enjoyed solo biking much on my lonesome, she's been on the back of my bikes for...

Yeah...they're great fun. We used it for camping trips...loaded up with 250 kilos of gear and the missus. 56mph flat out with a wind behind it...but as solid as a Defender. It even has a reverse gear :D
-
Works exactly the same with my recce wagon, you can fix anything with 2 spanners and a hammer :)
-
My reversing lights refuse to work...checked the fuse but no joy there since it shares with the brake lights. All the rest of the rear lights work after changing some bulbs...so it's either the reverse switch on the gearbox or something in between...hoping it's the switch, even though it's a...

I'm not afraid in the slightest...but my wallet remains utterly terrified :D
I've only started poring over my Disco...finding strange nests of anonymous purple wire and random dangly fuses here and there which is worrying. I don't mind the mechanical stuff in the slightest...sparky stuff? I'd...
