Oh the joys of a P38 4.6!!!!!!!!! :confused: I have done a search and found nothing, Does anyone know what the problem is with my temp gauge? Dash is saying temp gauge faulty (is it just the gauge??) and gauge has red light on and sits on max temp then flicks to min temp even from start up...

I have just done the head gaskets on mine, A simple but frustrating job, the worst part was removing the exhaust bolts especially the divers side bottom rear bolt as i had problems removing the heatshields, other than that it was a piece of cake.

I`ll ask the missus, I`m not dressing up again...............:eek:

At last its running!!!!!!!!!!! :) But found another core plug that had popped, the one behind the starter arrggghhhh but managed to get it on the ramps and replace it. Found that one of the ecu plugs was not clipped in either so that was the problem with it not starting, I must have been fed...

Finally got it back together today but now it won`t start, I`m guessing i need to enter the eac as the battery has been disconnected, is that right? I can get ignition lights etc but will not turn over

Finally got the drivers head off today, after struggling to remove the exhaust manifold bolt at the back of the head, how the hell are you supposed to undo it easily!!!!!!! The gasket had blown in the exact place as the other side so all is good, will block the head off tomorrow and try to...

may try some heat wrap then i`ll see how i get on first

can you buy new heatshields? cant find any? do i really need them?

I managed to remove two of the bolts that hold the heatshield on the other two just rounded off!!!!!!! so i just levered the heatshield out of the way for now, just been searching for new ones but to no avail, any ideas?? CV joint is from a mini so would probably fit in the bore quite easy!! lol

thats all i would need as its in front of the workshop and its a bit big to be pushing out of the way on my own!! lol

I have replaced the bolts but have checked and earlier engines do not need new bolts. Better safe than sorry i guess

Finally got the head off today and to find that the gasket has let go on the front part of the water jacket everything else looks fine, will add some pics later tonight, cam looks fine with no pitting, cleaned block and head surfaces and thoroughly cheaked it and all is good, so will do the...

If it has a lot of cam wear wouldn`t it be noisy? Tapping?
