hi all, got some serious electrical issues that have been pin pointed to my td5 bcu. My question is, if i was to get a s/h bcu, fobs and locks, would they still need programming to my truck or will they be up and running straight away if they've come from the same donor vehicle? :o

Hi rick, I have a d2 td5 and it has just a few electrical problems. I have had it tested at my local independent lr specialist, and they have said it is the bcu. The problems are indicators flashing when car locked car locks itself after 3mins front windows open, but only close with doors open...

Well took head off again today, due to water loss, and the head gasket I got off eBay was leaking like a sieve. So rechecked head and block for flatness and all ok. Took a trip to west 4x4 got a new gasket bolted her back together and everything is spot on. Fired up straight away. So moral of...

Yes I lapped the valves in and checked them for correct seating. I did check the block quickly with a metal ruler and she seemed ok.

The chemical metal idea is a waste of time in my opinion. I had the same problem with a Mitsubishi shogun I once had, the woodruff key had chewed up the crank shaft and the pulleys. I used Chemical metal and after a week I had exactly the same thing happen again. In the end it was an old truck...

Yes it was a new head fitted with old valves etc.

Ok then. Tonight I rechecked all the valve clearances and a few needed slackening off a little. I thought that the old girl would then fire up. Not to be. She turned over sounded like she was going to start but there was a fair bit of steam coming from near the exhaust manifold. Is this normal...

Yes I meant rocker. Doh ! Will reset all tappets and valve clearances.

Ok thanks all will take the head off later today and check the tappets and everything along those lines. Will let you all know how things go.

Yes it does seem a little faster.

Yes I have bleed fuel filter and checked glow plugs are connected all ok on that front.

Ok just checked fuel lines and it is pulsing out at the injectors. Not loads but a good amount. Could it still be the lift pump or is it more serious ?
