I replaced my transfer box with one with ATB, it removes a huge amount of back lash.

The tool to remove the input collar is about 500 quid, I managed it with- 2 leg puller and a searing puller. Putting the collar back on I use a bit of exhaust pipe and a screw thread : )

It is comparatively cheap, compared to a recon box. It would be a lie to say it’s easy, but I managed to do it with out the expensive Land Rover tools.

How about having a bash at rebuilding it, I just did mine, never did one before, it’s manageable. Chasing the end float was a bit of a pain. Ashcroft and Winchester do rebuild kits
