Changed tensioner.... belt looks as good as new.... will put on my new belt this week..... need to drive home from mid Wales so hoping I can silence the noise a bit with a bit of belt dressing.... I think it’s the water pump. Thanks for your reply

I managed to sort it with a new stud... unfortunately still a chirping noise! What’s next to change?? Thanks for your help so far

I think the thread inside is sheared and I can’t get the stud in far enough!

that's really helpful thanks. I did out it on but my stud was not in far enough. I will take the nut off it, get the stud in and then add the nut as suggested above, Hopefully that will work

No, I learnt that lesson on Friday ! I line up the marker dog and it sits in nicely but it just wasn't catching. Ill try again tonight in the light and maybe try and remove the bolt from the shaft to see if that helps.

Yes....thats it! When I undid mine, 8 and 10 are attached and just unscrewed and pulled it out. Thanks, Ill try and separate them and just try the stud as advised. thanks again

Thanks....its not the tensioner bolt that is the trouble, its the bolt that holds the other part of the system....the bit that the tensioner is attached to.

Thanks....I took it off on Friday night and refitted it without problem as I had to drive on saturday. last night i removed it and tried to put it back on but no luck...would the fact that the engine was still warm have an effect on it?

Good Morning, My 1995 TDI is making a really loud squeaky/chirping noise. I have read about the penny trick and removed the belt pulley tensioner unit to give it a bit of a clean and spin the tensioner to check barrings etc...Now I cant get the thing back on! Thansk...as it weighs a ton I cant see it being too easy to pinch and Ill rig up an alarm on it for when its parked on the drive way

Ha...we did think of that but the RTT seemed an easier way to get the whole family out camping. We plan to tart up the rear seating area with a breakfast table/its raining lets sit in and play scrabble table....plus put a drop down shelf on the back door to mount the camping stove on...seemed...
