Indicators overriding the hazards seems a good idea to me. Imagine being on tow, hazards on to warn traffic behind but still being able to indicate the intention to turn.
There should be no extension from the loom to the sensor. It could be that the wires are crossed or shorted inside the tape. I would get the connector and a decent length of wire off a scrapper, solder it to your loom and insulate with glue...
Had the hose and extension lead out for mixing cement, when I finished that job, as the sun is shining today I jet washed the mud & mold off both P38's. They are not clean, just a good deal less dirty.
