    I did'nt know what the map sensor was until today and I spotted it on the inlet manifold. I cleaned it out will with carb cleaner and an air line. Back to together now and seems fine. Thanks again for your time and advice.

    Yes the EGR is still fitted - never could understand what is does ? This TD5 is Manual. Changed from Air To Springs a few weeks ago - but the problem existed long before that.
