Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

I couldn't tell, but I've just ordered one that will be with me tomorrow and at £20 incl delivery (s/h) it was cheap enough. Just keen to get the steering wheel back on so I can use it again at the weekend. Cheers Tom

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

I did wonder about that, but the gap when, er 'resting' is very small, and as the main beam flash works without the keys (should it?) I'd be scared of a connection happening on its own to be honest Mick. Hi, and thank you for the link, and for sharing the post in the CF&Q section originally...

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

Hi again, The connection I refer to is the bare brass looking ones on the mechanism which moves as the lever is operated; the rubber bullet connections are fine. I'll try and recover my youtube login and upload the video - it would help clarify it. I am in the process of tracking down...

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

Right, I took the wheel shroud off and had a good look and play with these pesky electrics, and even took a video, but I have't yet uploaded it. To get a better look I went as far as removing the steering wheel (few whacks with my palms to loosen was all that was needed, which amazed me!), and...

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

Hi, and thanks. Nothing wrong with your logic, but the connection starts to work immediately after you clean it, or at least that's how it appears. I'll be a lot more methodical now it has done it again, and won't touch the contact points until I have had a thorough wiggle and a play with...

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I don't have any spots. The contacts look ok, and I can't see why when I take the cowl off each time they shouldn't work. It takes but a few seconds of messing about and they're perfect again. I was told I could put them on a switch on the dash, but I...

Arghh - damn main beam flash dodgy again!

So it's MOT time a week and my blinking (pun intended) flash unit has packed up again! Can you picture the little brass-on-brass contacts on the stalk that touch when you pull back the leaver? It is this that stops making a good connection. If I clean them up the flasher will work for a...

Advise Needed on suitable bottle Jack

I bought a brand Merc Sprinter bottle jack from ebay for £25 (ish) delivered. 3t, opens to 570mm I think.... Loads on there - take a butchers. Tom

Is there anything actually good about the Tdci engines.?

I don't think there is anything really wrong with them as such, and for many the advances in technology make the a tdci powered defender a nicer place to be... But personally, if I was given a choice of a brand spanking new defender with either a 300tdi or tdci unit, I'd pay a little more not...

    Attempted theft on my 90!!!!

At least that will double the time (30 seconds) it took to enter the defender and snap the ignition barrel in order to hit it over before realising it has one somewhere... Tom

Ughh - I hate electrics - nothing is ever simple!

I have to admit relays confuse me, and i'll do my best to just avoid them if I can with just 18w. Tom EDIT: I found this thread which is very helpful - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f38/tutorial-car-electrics-245168.html

Ughh - I hate electrics - nothing is ever simple!

I have been convinced I should run new wires and do it 'properly', but out of interest, how did you stop the permanent live from supplying some power to the light when you didn't want it? I tested all three positives, and even with the ignition off, the most suitable still gave the LED's a...

Ughh - I hate electrics - nothing is ever simple!

Hi chaps. Thanks for your comments - I'm not having the best of luck with electrical items this week. HTC one died Monday, landy CD player died (even opened it right up to look for dry joint) and now the fun with this... at least I replaced my reversing light unit tonight without any hiccups...

Ughh - I hate electrics - nothing is ever simple!

So you may recall (prob not!) I bought an 18w LED work light (ebay job) a few weeks back - well after a brief discussion about not needing a relay, extra fuse box etc - I decided to wire it off the heated screen as I'm not fussed about it. Long story short, that feed is live at the switch but...
