O.k has anyone out there replaced just the voltage regulator part of the alternator before? Is it an easy job or am i better off buying a new alternator?Had to have a new compressor and valve block fitted just before Christmas so funds still struggling a bit at the moment. Cheapest new...

    rangerover flat battery

Hmm, cheers that saves me taking the dash apart.I gave up waiting for noise to stop after about five minutes.Just came back from having battery checked and the bloke who tested it says there is a charging fault, not enough being put back into battery,so that looks like a new blooming alternator...

    P38 2.5 Power Loss

No nor me.Did get 24 mpg on a trip from Tewkesbury to Sheffield the other week, but some get that round town.I'm looking in to maybe getting mine chipped if i can find some proof the expense will be worth it.Blimey you running a diesel and a petrol Rangie? Tony

    fuel mpg on p38

Interesting...what chip you got and any idea who fitted it?My 96 DSE doing 20.8 with the mrs driving it,i only get to play with it at weekends (the rangie, not the mrs)I would like to get 24 mpg out of it and it may stop the mutterings of "getting something cheaper to run" aswell ;)

    P38 2.5 Power Loss

Thanks for your advice chaps. Replaced the filter and switched the relays,so far so good.I haven't really given it too much in the way of revs but it seems to be pulling strong and no sign of the power loss i was getting, now just got to see if i can improve on 20.9 to the gallon............anyone?

    P38 2.5 Power Loss

That is a good question.I haven't changed it myself. It does look pretty new but changing it must be worth a try. Do you think the vacuum cell attached to the turbo could be at fault,as the turbo pipes were collapsing when revving engine hard before i replaced them and i understand there should...

    P38 2.5 Power Loss

Bought my 1997 P38 2.5 DSE a couple of months back and all has been great, until now. When i kick down to overtake-not something you do too often in a diesel-the revs hit about 3500-4000 rpm and the power goes.Let the revs drop back to 1000 rpm and it picks up o.k again.Hard smooth acceleration is...
