Thankyou for all the replies, it does look like it is the vibration damper that has come adrift. I appreciate all your help.

We have an 03 plate Freelander. The propshaft has a fitting on it which has separated twice. The end of the fitting falls off and spins on the propshaft making a noise. I am able to push this fitting back on which sorts it for a couple of weeks. On the attached photograph you can see the scratch...
