Just a quick note of caution, do not use high power coils on this ignition system, they don't like it and will fail. I have posted on this before. Make sure you check the wiring very carefully, old corroded wires break inside the insulation...

Loafer61 reacted to Ratae's post in the thread Starting and ignition woes with Like Like.
Does the simonbbc rotor arm have the metal strip moulded in or is it riveted? I do recall another website where someone (not me!) reckoned he spent around £600 trying to sort a misfire issue which was resolved by refitting the old rotor arm....

The problem with levering or pulling the rotor arm off on the electronic dizzys is that you can disengage the auto advance/retard mechanism which is under the plate you can see when you have the dizzy cap off. You must press down on the reluctor...

Air and oil filters, new oil gone in. MAF and MAP clean, hoping to get back into the low 30s mpg on a long run again 👍🏻 Mileage: 138271

I've done a little bit of welding, but I'm not up to this. I think I might remove the interior bits myself, so I know it's done! The job is being farmed out by the MoT garage to 'their' welder bloke, so I'd imagine they'd put a bit on top of his...

What are you trying to achieve? The standard system does that doesnt it? Maybe a new thread cos I cant see why? J

Sorry, but I refer, and defer, to my learned friend @sierrafery on this. I prefer wielding spanners and hammers to computers and diagnostics!!
  • Loafer61
A quick question on this (although I have a petrol LR), is it a drama to bypass the loom and give the fuel a continuous 12V feed? Switched so the pump is off when not running of course.
  • Loafer61
TBH I'd not worry about a Nano for a while. Why not try doing what you did to get the fuel pump going then try to crank it again to see if it fires up and runs. Even if you have to jury rig wires to it. But be aware that if the ECM doesn't get a...

Evening all, So ive got a manual td5 disco 2. parked it on the drive a bit back and it stalled by itself. and ive been trying for a couple months to get it going and still no luck. It turns over but doesnt turn on the fuel pump, no noiuse or...

The difference in rotor arms were the ways the metal tabs were held on. Crap ones could not cope with heat & would pop up on the top
  • Loafer61
Good advice. My ‘new’ blue one doesn’t have one side protected, but my old kanckered black one did. Old and new rotors look identical in colour and dimensions.
  • Loafer61
I know we are chatting about this on two forums Norseman, but thanks! I don’t think the old one is original (circa 1996 I think, if it was. Nothing last that long in Africa!), but it was properly scarred on the contacts. It is hard to tell...

Glad you sorted the problem. In leaving the discussion the only advice I can offer is that despite the RV8's antique design it doesn't perform well (or sometimes at all) with cheap ignition components. I have personal experience of the poor...

`Not very helpfully, I had changed the plugs from used Champs N9YC to new ones to new NGK BPR6ES. Still the same misfire, but a new distributor and rotor has now sorted it. The 3.9 is running beautifully on NGKs but it did on Champs too before...

With the bleed pipe disconnected from the radiator and the cap off the expansion tank, coolant should flow from the radiator easily. Blow down the bleed return hose to ensure it's completely clear of coolant, then reconnect to the radiator. Start...

The crank pulley is bigger than the alternator pulley, so the alternator will reach 4k well before the engine does.. at a guess 1500-2000 engine rpm? Pure guess
  • Loafer61
The test sheet that came with my new alternator. If I am reading the performance curve correctly does that mean that at a little over 4000rpm it will produce 160amp? I will need to do some maths looking at the belt gearing but the engine can do...

A lesson in over tightening. Now I have one less bolt holding down the drivers side rocker cover. Rest is reassembled, with only two bolts left over, not as bad as I was expecting! Turned over and started fairly easily, but I didn't run it for...

you can swap the hand of the alternator by simply undoing the three or four very long screws pulling them out rotating the ends of the alternator in relation to each other refitting the screws and tightening them up
