Driven: New Defender - On & Off Road. Is it a Pretender?

lt's interesting being on the Grenadier forum as well as the Land Rover one. As it shows where the market has gone with the car buying public. Some models of the new Defender come with rear towing eyes, and there's a steady stream of owners moaning about surface rust on them. Some have forced...

    New clutch lasted 243 miles

lf it was a broken half shaft you should still be able to drive the vehicle if you engage the differential lock. However if the clutch pedal has gone light, it sounds like something else has failed. It could be the clutch fork, it can wear so the rod goes straight through the fork but in that...

Defender 110 UK Defender 110 African Overland Build - Avaiable in Kenya or UK

l fear that arranging shipping from SA is going to put off U.K. buyers. Do you have an estimate of the shipping costs to the U.K. including import taxes etc? Would a U.K. buyer have to pay VAT?

Defender 110 UK Defender 110 African Overland Build - Avaiable in Kenya or UK

Wow that's a lovely Overlander. What kind of figure are you hoping to achieve for it?

    New clutch lasted 243 miles

Again no update, so frustrating. I hope he got it sorted, l wonder what the fault was in the end. My guess would be oil contamination on the clutch, but the mechanic who replaced it should have noticed if that was the case.

    EBERSPACHER space/water heaters...

Victoria has disappeared from the forum (nothing for five years) l wonder if she did her Overland trip and if so, how it went.

Strange Start Up Noise - TD5

Maybe you're looking in the wrong place for the source of the thumping noise. What about the harmonic damper at the front of the crankshaft, when that's failing it can cause some strange noises.

    Drive Before I Decide?

l've found this as well, looked at a fair few Puma's that looked nice but chassis wasn't great, and seen a few TD5's that clearly haven't been looked after but the chassis was still good. l think half the problem with the Puma is, nobody treated the chassis when they bought one new. By the time...

    JLR indifference.

No harm was done, except emotional trauma. Sure, it could have been worse if she had been on the motorway etc, but it wasn't. l can see how it could make you lose confidence in the vehicle. My Defender slammed the brakes on when l was turning right because it thought l was going to hit the car...

A new Freelander is coming, apparently.

Sadly that's where most new Defenders are parked.

    JLR indifference.

lt looks like "Jeff" posted to complain about his vehicle and then never came back after his original post. Hopefully it's been fine since the repair, but we'll likely never know.

    Defender new buyer

No visible registration number, bodywork looks reasonable from the couple of poor photos. £5,000? Assuming it has a valid MOT. lf the chassis has had it you could easily spend in the region £6-10,000 to get it sorted.
