I think that's always been the case with any "classic" vehicle. People in the concourse classic vehicle world get finicky about the correct screw heads and even the orientation of the screw.

Sounds like someone managed to get it reclassified. lt used to be possible but the DVLA clamped down on it, as people were doing it to make their vehicles ULEZ and LEZ exempt. Understandably so, but the DVLA didn't want people doing it.

No they are obsolete. But you might find a good used unit on Ebay, just make sure the internal battery is still okay. Maybe better to just upgrade the alarm. As the factory one isn't that secure.

You could be right. There's quite a few on the other forums using these new Defenders for serious Overlanding particularly in the USA and Australia. And the steel wheels are really the only choice. lt's a shame these wheels don't fit the old model, there's around twenty sets for sale on Ebay...
