Oh okay so you think it may need a new head, I'll buy and do a compression test to see if it has increased to much
-
L
Okay could it be 180 degrees out or would the symptoms be way worse, also I was reading on series123 and that the emission controlled engines stock were timed to 6atdc? I'm using a timing light and the original knotch in the pulley

No that head gasket wasn't I don't think but I know it has been skimmed 2-3 times, the valves are all fine I'm guessing because it's very smooth on the flat it's only under full acceleration or uphill that it happens

L
Yeah the advance is working and I bought and changed the advance pipe

I've had the problem before I changed the ignition system it started about a year or more ago
-
L
No I'm running an electronic ignition
-
L
Okay I believe all the ends are in good shape because this noise only happended after the head gasket was done, I didn't properly check if all the threads looked the same length but I can check them soon if that would help. Thanks

No I have still got it at 6atdc but It was running it at tdc last week but that was making the noise louder
-
L
Nothing got better or worse, I did have a problem with the new electronic distributer but I got a replacement
-
L
I set them all at 10 thou when it was cold
-
L
Right okay well the carb and the ignition system are new and I have recently done the tappets. So what would you suggest now?
-
L
Yeah I'll have a look for one and do it, thanks
-
L
Okay I'll give it a try! What is the timing ment to be on one of these engines? Because I just can't see why it would be atdc
-
L
If it's carbon build up what would be the best way of cleaning without taking the head off cheers
