After a while away from the keyboard, i've returned with a couple of repair stories. So... first off, i broke down on the M6 after my clutch slave cylinder exploded (a common problem, i've come to realise). After having to start the car in gear and sometimes in reverse, i noticed a noise coming...

My thoughts exactly! Well after a whole month of hard work (which brought with it a steep learning curve), the Freebie is back on the road! MOT and all... She's had alot of new kit including radiator and head gasket. That K-Series lump now sounds as sweet as a nut (whatever that means)...

So... i popped my head underneath the Freebie this afternoon to wipe down the diff before i re-book the MOT test... I found this. This little inspection lamp had been riding underneath the Hippo since i re-fitted the prop shaft in November... i wondered where it had gone. Anyway! Here are some...

Nice, and would it be enough to put a bead around the outside of the seal? To avoid removing the prop shaft...

Really now? That sounds appealing... is that a temporary alternative to replacing the seal? Thanks for the input!

I'm pretty sure it's the pinion seal. If i can just clean it up and get it through the MOT then i'll be happy... Then i can replace the seal when i've got the time.

Yeah, i've got it back home. As you said, tyres are tyres... not to bothered about that. I'm going to have my friend weld the underside as time and resources are an issue at the moment.

Good news! She's back on the road and equipped with a new radiator... Bad news... she just failed her MOT... Two worn tyres (debatable), some rot under the offside sill and a leak on the rear diff. Very disappointed. :(

Nice. I've been looking at the Yokohama Geolander A/T GO15, although it could be a while until i free up enough funds to fit five of these... I'm just looking forward to having her back on the road at the moment!

Nice one! Thanks for the offer Wayne but i think i'm going to go with all terrain tyres. This is also my daily drive, so i don't want it to be too noisy or too rough. Thanks again though. :)

I did! Although it was just a case of using some wet 'n' dry on the cylinder liners, some grease to keep the dirt away from the piston rings and a hand held vacuum cleaner to remove it. I also gave the crowns a going over with a long wire brush until they were relatively clean. :)

Thankyou! I'm glad you guys are enjoying the thread. I've actually discovered a leak since my last post and am in the process of replacing the radiator. Once this has been done, the whole coolant system (more or less) will have been renewed!
