I don't think it is a total loss really? Will see, engine did not run whilst in water, so I may be lucky..... + I doubt the insurance would pay out, due to 'negligence' on my part, by parking where i did park, which was a stupid frankly.....

Thanks all - the water should not really be salty as quite far upstream at Richmond. The very highest point was basically on the photo, but the car was also at an angle, so may not be quite as bad in terms of engine getting totally wet. Hi My TD5 got 'slightly' wet yesterday when parked up at the tidal Thames. When I came back the car was in the water up to the edge of the bonnet and the horn was sounding non-stop. Managed to open doors and get it towed home by a friend. Now every time I connect the battery, the horn blares...

Thanks, I was exaggerating with the soggy carpets, I have rubber mats and all is dry (at least at the moment). The lever moves just fine, it is just still that screw on the transfer box which may still be in the way.....

So I managed to remove the soggy carpets and other bits and pieces - the diff lock linkage seems to be working just fine, except that when i push the lever to engage the diff lock, it seems to catch on a screw on the transfer box, which MIGHT prevent it from moving over fully.
