Hi,
The RR is a 1992 3.9 auto (no cats).
What symptoms should I expect to see if the Air Flow Meter (MAF) has failed?
The reason I ask is that I unplugged it the other day while it was running and it didn't seem to make any difference. Ran exactly the same plugged or unplugged.
It has always...

I had a feeling that would be the case - joys of Rover ownership I guess :)

Another update.
I have now replaced the governor and the three square section o-ring seals and re-assembled the gearbox. I have also changed the gearbox filter and ATF again.
Unfortunately the gearbox is performing in exactly the same way as before - changing up much later than expected in...

Another thing that I have noticed is the output shaft from the gearbox has quite a bit of lateral play. It is tight in the seal but can be moved slightly in all directions, is this normal?

Do you know a good place to buy the relevant parts?

I did try tightening the kickdown cable, it seemed to make the changes occur even later. I then adjusted it back to about 1 mm from the cable stop.

Finally got around to changing the oil and filter. It has improved it slightly and the box generally feels more positive but it still changes up a lot later than I would expect. I had a look at the kick down cable and it all looked good and seemed to be working as expected.
I mentioned the...

Thanks for all the responses guys, will let you know how I get on.

I did, held it in every gear for a few seconds before checking it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I checked the oil level when cold this morning. It is reading about 2 inches above the maximum mark!!
I will drop a few litres out of it on the weekend - and won't use it in the meantime. Thankfully I haven't used it much, hope the previous owner hadn't...
