haha, yes i am not fond of cream interior either but would have probably done same if its hse spec!
I'd be interested in a brim to brim if you ever do that. And where the fook are the photos? Come on man, all this dribbling for nothing!
ok so I collected my fl2 on Wednesday and have been running around in it and here is my initial thoughts...
Fl2 is a nicer ride for our crap roads.
Fl2 is slower than the x5 40d obviously
Engine is louder in side cabin
X5 handles better on...
wonder what your thoughts are? I've never even looked over, let alone driven an X5. I am sure it's lovely (owned BMW's when I was younger and bloody loved em).
Cheers
PS - Sorry for all the messages, wouldn't let me post more than 420 characters
Seems to have been cherished by a knowledgable owner, swirl flap delete. new brakes front and back, new HP Dueller tyres x4. Says it's been loved. £4000.
Seems cheap but I know people are struggling to sell so that may not be a red flag. Lot of...
I've just been offered a 2009 X5 M Sport (35D) in black. 145k miles but lot of work done. Complete new suspension, airbags, pipework, compressor. All injectors he said replaced but need to check that as I am told the only proper ones are £1000...
Hiya, really interesting post thank you. I don't want to post this publicly because I suspect people will get funny about Beemer talk on here :D. Curious - you're not in Cornwall are you?
Fuel usage is higher, similar to a D2. Parts are hideously expensive, especially if they have to come from BMW.
LR has a large supply of aftermarket parts, BMW not so, so many parts have to come from a dealer.
The stupidly wide X5 tyres are...
Huh? Guessing you haven't owned one then, or maybe didn't know where to look?
There is a MASSIVE range of "aftermarket" parts for BMW, even from the manufacturers who made the originals: Lemforder, Valeo, Bosch, Bremi, Beru, etc, etc, etc. They...
Superb response thank you. Unfortunately where I am there are very limited sales near me to go find one to try. I am looking thought.
I should have said, M57 is probably the one i can go for, so aroud 2008-2010 X5. There are some E70s in the...
There was only one generation of Freelander 2 (with a mild facelift). However, there have been several variants and generations of the BMW X5. So it will largely come down to what you are actually comparing.
Four gens of X5 according to Wiki...
Just wondered if anyone has had both or knows enough to make any sensible comparisons in terms of :
Running costs
Reliability
Fuel economy
PS I know the two vehicles are very much in a different class and most people wouldn't be considering...
Excellent info thanks. Have you ever done brim to brim calculation to see how close your computer is to real world figures?
Are you in Cornwall? if so whereabouts?
What year/model are you driving? (Signature needs an update ;) !)
HSE or HSE LUX is the top spec, but they're always overpriced for a couple of extra comforts. As Freddie said, the SE is generally the best spec for the money, as it has everything the HSE has, but misses on fully leather seats (unless optioned)...
Here's a tip for improving the mpg on an auto FL2. Snick the gear knob to the left and change up a gear manually a bit earlier than it would in auto. On a long 'A' road run, where you could be sitting all day at 50 or 60 mph in 5th gear, you can...
Yes, long term cost wise I suspect auto MAY be cheaper. But horses for courses, in my life the fill up cost is a bigger problem day to day than the need to find a chunk for a replacement clutch. Yes I get the point that it might be false economy...
Excellent write up, thanks very much for that. I am definitely getting close to hunting for a FL2. I think I will go for manual. Pulling my boat out of water is child's play, even a 2WD car could do it, the extra traction just helps with any...
My experience is that the MPG figures you've been quoted at a bit above what you will get. But I may be wrong.
I got my first Landie in about 2000, a D1 300TDI Auto. Was a good car, very sluggish - both trying to get it to go quicker... and...
I should have said, the main other contender was a BMW X5 since they are cheap enough for me now. But i heard they can be bloody expensive to run, and I don't know much about MPG other than someone once telling me they got 30 from theirs, not...
Mine is 2012. Yes, it's that weird thing which cuts the engine if you stop at lights. You can switch it off but end of the day it reduces the road tax as it puts the car in another band.
The TD4 engine does sound a bit agricultural when cold.
