    Three amigos (sorry!)

I'm not sure now although it does remain on the suspect list. Definitely an issue somewhere on that circuit though - just glad to make some progress.

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Very brief update on this one. I have FINALLY managed to get the three amigos to extinguish albeit temporarily with something of a workaround. If I earth the black/green wire (between the ABS ECU and the brake fluid level sensor) at the connector on the brake fluid reservoir the system no longer...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Thanks gents - appreciate the involvement and testing of your own equipment. Yes, you're correct - it does build pressure then shuts off, restarting every 3rd or so press of the peddle so I guess it behaves as if it's reaching the desired pressure. So following your advice, I've studied the...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

I've just done the test and it's taken 35 seconds to re-pressurise so it certainly looks like it's in the suspect zone. At least that gives me a reason to believe I should replace the pump itself now. I didnt know there was a rave procedure to check the pump against so i'll check that out too...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Slight update - I've since replaced the ABS ECU too with a known good one but no change either. Given I've changed the accumulator (new), pressure switch (new), ECU, reset brake plunger, short circuited the brake fluid level sensor connection, soldered the connections at A-pillar, and bled the...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Yeah, agreed. By shorting the fluid level connector with a paper clip, I can get it to read pressure ok on ignition but it just doesn't seem to stay that way once the car starts. The ABS, TC, and Brake light (now the Airbag light too which is a recent development) are all on regardless of...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

So a bit of follow up. I've checked the wiring at the switch, the abs ecu as well as the plugs by the a-pillars on both sides and they seem fine, cleaned with contact cleaner, checked pins, did continuity testing etc. The only thing I noticed was that the brake fluid sensor was faulty...

    Gotcha

    Three amigos (sorry!)

By contacts, do you mean connector pins on the back of the switch itself? Every 4 presses of the footbrake sounds about right but I'll run another test and ch3ck over the connectors.

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Ah so Pressure switch 1 and pressure switch 2 are two switches within the one unit (the green one screwing into the abs pump). If so that does imply either wiring, connector or a pump issue. I'll check out how often the pump kicks in with use and let you know. I'll also have a look at the brake...

    Three amigos (sorry!)

Hi all, my 2002 p38 4.0 is currently plagued by the 3 amigos on the dash and I'm trying to get a new mot on it (the first one in my ownership) but the tester has said he can't give a pass with the lights on and "ABS FAULT" on the dashboard. This is what i know - the braking is good, the pedal is...

    P38, 4.0 petrol, 2002, Bosch - no start

Pants! Not enough days in the year! Oh well, back to the original question. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of info out there but if anyone has any info about converting a Gems block it would be much appreciated.

    P38, 4.0 petrol, 2002, Bosch - no start

Well guys, it's me again. I'm only just now returning my attention to getting her running again and I'm after some advice. A local guy has a Gems lump (60,000mile) available for £300 with no courier costs but I'm not quite sure if I can adapt it with Thor parts to avoid compatibility issues -...

    P38, 4.0 petrol, 2002, Bosch - no start

So I think I can conclude that logic is going out the window here and I'm coming round to getting her back on the road, spending more money in it than I'll ever get back. My local specialist reckoned the existing block is goosed now in that if the bearing spun once, it'll probably do it again. I...

Haha, okay. Well I can't comment on that but I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. It does sound like perhaps it's more time and money than its worth but I'll gi'e it a bash.
