so would the drive shaft only make this noise in 4 wheel drive (with prop shaft and vc)? because there is no noise in 2 wheel drive?

had a garage to have a look and they said ( not land rover specialist) the front diff mount needs replacing so they did that, put the prop and vc back on lad drove it off the ramp and the noise is still there. but he reakons its coming from the front drive shaft ????? im gonna cry what could it...

cheers for the advice really appreciate it. ive taken the prop shaft and viscous coupling off as i was going to drive it for work in 2 wheel drive but when i get a spare hour ill fit it back on and try your advice. is there any tests you can do with the prop and vc off?

i wasnt really doing any speed just taking my time reversing as i had just put everything back together reversed about 2m and heard the first knock so stopped reversed again prob same distance and heard for a second time. pulled back onto drive and no knocks at all.

hi right ive checked the diff and subframe mounts and they are fine no movement wear or tear on them. what now????

Ive replaced my ird and purchased a recondition viscous coupling with bearings all ready mounted from bell enginnering. The ird is in and works in two wheel drive. Ive now fitted the reconditioned viscous coupling onto the prop shaft and fitted it all back together. Started it up and reversed...

thanks do you know of a way that i could check if the vc is goossed? ive taken the prop shaft vc off the car but to be honest im not sure what im looking for to see what works and what doesnt. you seem to know your stuff do you recommend everywhere that does reconditioned units that wont fleece...

thank you for all that information i really appreciate it. when you say transfer unit about £400 do you mean 2nd hand? do you think a second hand one would be ok if i got the vc new?:confused: my t reg has done 65k which i believe is not alot for the year

mmmm thanks but im up in northumberland. just been goggling transfer box loads of advice saying if changing transfer box then advise to change viscous coupling aswell but it a messy job to detach from prop shaft. do you think it is worth trying to get a second hand prop shaft and vc unit...

right been told it is the transfer box £1000 for new part, then theyll only know once this is fitted if any thing else has gone aswell. does they sound right? surely they can see if things look broken not put on a part and wait to see what happens?

right ok thanks for all that. just abit out me dept and i know the garage will fleece me with technical terms. is a drive shaft and transfer box the same for the diesel as a petrol or is it completely different?
