never seen any oil from the base of bell housing can oil get in the starter motor from the gear ring

took the starter off me landie thought the brushes were stuck turns out it was full of oil no idea were this oil has come from the engine is a 2 litter diesel can anyone please help

Hi I have a 1983 series 3 which wont go in reverse gear you can push the stick in and let the cluch up gentely it starts to wont to move but it throws the stick out if you hold the stick it just grinds but wont move.
