Hi all, I intend to respray some chequer plates on my LR 90, but don’t want to remove them because I’m not quite sure how they’re fixed and they’re ancient. If they’re already black for the most part, and just have some scratching/discolouration etc what prep work do I need? Thanks.

Gunk seems to be one of the more popular choices, but I’ve heard it can damage tarmac, which would be a nightmare if true.

The original hella unit does seem to have that metallic strip, in the form of a coil. The new one doesn’t, and there definitely isn’t a lamp out, so I’m guessing the new one is an electrickery thingy haha. Either way, I left the original one to dry out as a last ditch attempt and it works fine...
