Even if the weight remains central the force on the hubs is still magnified by the leverage added by spacers / adapters - Not sure if hubcentrics would diminish the leverage?

Because the offset allows you to have wider wheels but keeps the weight central/ where it’s supposed to be ☺️☺️. But I see your point. Thanks everyone. One to ponder! 🤔

Yeh, but the landy’s there to be worked hard and taken on adventures and sometimes I get it wrong. Luckily I get it wrong enough to keep the tool collection growing.

ijmj replied to the thread OEM or Stainless hinges?.
That's a fair point, I'm looking at the original hinges and they've just ground themselves to dust due to the lack of tribological attention 🙄 316 is actually pretty soft in comparison to mild steel but the polish and finish of the hinges will...

Well is there a quality difference? What's a "normal" hinge?

So this is for the front doors, well, only doors of my 300tdi Hi Cap. I'm looking at replacing the hinges as I've got probably about 12/13mm of travel if I pick the doors up, and the door catch on the inside of the cab is getting thoroughly...

That is a vain way to justify it. Many of us go to the effort of ensuring our vehicles are not illegal. In this case, wider wheel arches or even attaching some rubber to extend the factory ones is cheap and easy to do. Its just laziness not to do...

Okay - Is this a divisive issue? As I've got massive nubs on the outside of the tyre with the Insa's it really shocks me at times how bad it sounds ! I don't want to put any more strain on the bearings as am often crawling over real rough...

Issues with spacers are your tire can end to far out for the eyebrow to cover, a legal requirement in the UK. Greater stress on the wheel bearings, just something to be aware of and keep an eye on. Be aware it is not good to hold steering at the...

You can put spacers on the steering lock stop bolts to stop them bending. You can use washers if only need a little bit.

Yes ,spacers or wider offset rims would work.

So I'm still pretty head down with the 300tdi HiCap - I'm having issues with my Insa Turbos rubbing on the radius arms when in full lock. Having played around with the steering lock stop bolts and having bent every single longer bolt I've...

i finally have an update on this. I took the cap apart and flipped the seal like meego suggested and i also tweeked the taps a touch as dag019 said and its been fine since. Yesterday i finally saved up enough money to completely brim the tank...
