Would you not see a resistance change rather than an open/closed circuit change, or would that be to easy ?

You can accidently lower your back wind by your key fob. Sure the buttons aren't getting pressed whilst in your pocket.
I tend to agree with Nodge68 on your wipers, if it happens again check your reversing lights and switch.

Theres another post on here at the moment, concerning snow chains that can't be fitted to 18" wheels. If you intend driving to the Alps read the post and choose smaller wheels.

I was replacing the fob battery in mine every couple of months with some from a packet I had for years. Eventually bought some new, well known brand and never had to change them again.

If its just a pressure switch, put a multimeter (on resistance) across the contacts, turn on the HP pump and it should switch over.

How are you reading the temperatures ?

I
Buy a can of freezer spray (for freezing pipes when plumbing etc ) Spray the relay and/or motor when the wipers have stopped working and see if they start again.

Hi
How are you getting your temperature readings ?
My V6 used to leak a small amount from the 'o' ring at the bottom of the thermostat housing. The water sat on the V between the heads.

Hi Hippo
I thought you would have put out to graze the serengeti by now, you seem to have been saving freelanders forever.
I won't register for the Hawkeye as I never solved my auto box problem so no longer have a Freelander, but very generous of you and your friend to give one away.

I changed one drop link in ten years of owning a Freelander I V6

I fitted snow chains to mine many times without any problems. You need to put them on tight and re check them after a few hundred yards as there is not a lot of clearance around the back of the wheel, if they are loose they hit the suspension or brake parts. this is on a freelander I

Sold my Freelander about ten years ago, so don't visit this site very often now. Nice to see you haven't lost your sense of humour.:)

Check the new handle where the threaded insert goes into the plastic. Mine rusted, expanding and cracking the plastic. Then when I tried opening the door, the whole lot came off in my hand.
