I too was looking at insurance quotes for two cars, Car 1. W220, Mercedes S-350,petrol, good spec, 04 plate, £6000, quote £624 Car 2. L322, Range Rover 4.4,petrol, [Vogue, I think] 06 plate, £13000, quote £398. It baffles me how a car half the price of the RR is £200 more to insure is it...

Sadly not no, however I have heard the gearboxes are better on the petrol ones and I don't do many miles 50-60 a week on average. I already run a petrol S-class Mercedes so I know what to expect fuel cost wise. Buy the way are any body panels aluminum or is the body Galvanized?. One final thing...

I understand theirs a 4.4 BMW and 4.4 Jaguar unit is this correct and when was the change over period?

I'd be looking at petrol power 2005 onwards, anything to note between 4.2 s/c and 4.4?
