Hi. Recently tried starting my S3 after 7 years. New electronic ignition. Valve clearance set, timing roughly TDC. Tried both the current Weber ICH34 carb and an OEM zenith type carb. It cranks but won't fire. Good spark at each plug and fuel reaching the carb. Violent backfire in the...

It is possible yes. I have loads of photos that I took since staring the resto though and they all look like this one so I don’t think it’s lost a cap recently

Yeh it’s bent so you can’t see it. That bit works, it’s just the other bit that’s puzzling me. The vehicle has never had an auxiliary oil pressure gauge and yet it has also never previously leaked from there. Suggests that either the unit is now damaged and leaking or previously when the...

Hi. I have oil leaking from the thread at the oil filter assembly head. The thread looks like it should have a pressure gauge pipe attached to it but there is no pressure gauge on my Landy
any thoughts ? Is there something missing from it ?
thanks

Hi. Yes I thought about a loose screw. No noise or evidence of one though. By hand I mean I have to put a long bar on the crank pulley nut and lever it quite hard to get it to turn. With the flywheel off I can just grip the pulley and turn it quite easily. The difference between the two...

Quick update on this
I removed the engine and it’s on the beach now. It still takes a long bar to turn the engine
I removed the clutch and plate and it was the same. I removed the flywheel and all of a sudden everything is free and I can turn the crank quite easily by hand now and it’s pretty...

Oh right Ok - thanks for this advice. I’m leaning towards taking the engine out and checking the big end bearings. It just seems too stiff and lumpy to turn to me

The engine was fine. It ran Ok and seemed quite smooth. I’m getting conflicting advice on the oil to put in the pots. Some say penetrating oil, some say avoid it because it dries out the cylinders

I’ve turned it quite a few revolutions now. Some strokes are easier than others that’s for sure - so like 1 and 4 come up it is harder than when 2 and 3 come up if you know what I mean. Overall though it seems a bit tight and not very smooth.

Thanks for this. I did use WD40 because I read that it’s what you should use somewhere but thanks. I have plenty of ATF so I will try that

It’s in the vehicle but the head is off

Hi.
My s3 hasn’t been started in 5 years but I’m struggling to make it turn. I have the head off and I can hand turn it with from the crank nut using a long lever but it’s very stiff. I thought I might be able to turn it on the starter but it doesn’t want to know. The starter and battery...

Hi. Following an o ring problem I decided to change the transmission oil cooler pipes on my 2002 disco 2 TD5. The old pipes are off but does anyone have any photos of the pipe routing under the car. It’s not immediately obvious and I want to make sure they follow the correct routing through...
