    300tdi stalling every few minutes

Well..... Got the truck taken to First Diesel in Croydon. They identified the problem as the main fuel pump and rebuilt it. They took it for a test drive and the thing ran out of fuel - they said that the fuel gauge read 1/4 full but there was no fuel coming through so something weird there...

    300tdi stalling every few minutes

Sorry for the delay. Yes...my truck is a 90 - sorry for Ny confusion there. I’ve checked the stop solenoid and that works OK. I’m at my wits end now. Called local garages and none seemed to know anything about the 300TDI engine which I can’t beleive as it’s such a basic common engine...

    300tdi stalling every few minutes

Well guys.....thanks for all the input so far. Here’s where I’m at. Have just replaced the lift pump. When I pulled the old one off it was very weak and no spring/pump pressure so thought that must be the problem. However the problem is still there. As soon as I try to open the gas, it...

    300tdi stalling every few minutes

Update: I've changed the fuel filter. Looked for the sediment (but embarrassingly, can't find it!!). The engine fired up but just stalled within a few seconds. Starts again with foot to the floor and about 10 seconds cranking but simply won't move unless full revs then stalls immediately...

    300tdi stalling every few minutes

Thanks very much for the replies chaps! I've ordered a new fuel filter. Looked at the air filter which seems OK. Dumb question, sorry: what/where are the spill pipes? Will let you know the update in a couple of days when the filter's replaced. Cheers, Hilton.

    300tdi stalling every few minutes

All of a sudden this has started. This morning it took a few turns to start which isn’t normal and made me think something wasn’t quite right. After 15 minutes (in stop-start London traffic) the tickover starts dropping then a few minutes later it just starts spluttering and stalls. About 10...

    Replacing body cappings question

Hi chaps. I'm about to embark on replacing the body cappings on my TDi300 90 CSW. Wanting to make as simple a job as possible so wondered if I can get away with not having to undo the roof/windscreen fastenings & seal and just raising the rear body from by the back door and kind of lever the...

    Rear wiper not working

You may have fixed this by now, so am sorry if this is irrelevant. Check that the connector prongs are held firmly where the loom plug goes into the motor body. I bought a new motor(cheaper variety) and one of the pins wasn't held properly so didn't engage properly when connected - just got...

    Rear wiper motor wiring problem

Cheers Foxyred. You made me look a bit more closely!! 'Twas dark last night and missed the small 2 pin socket hidden down the back. Helps when you use your eyes doesn't it?! Thanks for pointing it out to me. All good and finally got working wipers on the 90 for the first time in...

    Rear wiper motor wiring problem

Got a bit of a wiring conundrum. Bought an identical rear wiper motor to the original one that was in there(see photo). The old one was as rotten as hell with the connectors rotted off and hanging loose. There are two of these, a 3 pin and a 2 pin as per the photo. The 3 pin one slides...

Great stuff. Thanks for such a quick response chaps.

    Raising gear ratio

First of my many dumb posts after having just joined the forum, so please bear with me and excuse my ignorance :) My main gearbox letting go a couple of weeks ago(shortly after having bought the Landy, grrrrr!). It had seized due to no oil so is being rebuilt. The transfer box is OK apart from...

New Defender '95 300TDi 90 owner - optimistic tale of woe

Thanks again for the replies! Just checked (heart-in-mouth moment!) with the LEZ exemption and thankfully it's OK. You're right Wimblow, the LEZ is from nr the Black Prince and the Congestion charge from the Elephant. I'm not exactly sure where the T-charge will start from but think it'll be...

New Defender '95 300TDi 90 owner - optimistic tale of woe

Oh yeah - good point Neilly. I'm OK for the LEZ at the moment as it's not classed as commercial vehicle/van - however, when Mr.Khan implements the T charge in October, me along with anyone else with a pre '06 car will have to pay £10 for the privilege of going inside the classified area, which I...
