This is what happens when your dizzy shaft's o ring is seated in a groove too shallow. Or it's a poor quality cap. Who knows?

Taking the advice of @Hicap phill the glow plugs were pulled out each pot and a good dose of oil squirted in. Then the glow plugs were back in and the engine spun over a few times to slosh the oil around. Each glow plug removed in turn and the...

I just thought before I did anything drastic I'd better just try just one last thing. I popped the top off one of the carbs and momentarily inserted a cocktail stick into the main jet hole. It was bone dry, save for a tiny bit of petrol right at...

Hey man, thanks for the reply. 1) its had two different transfer boxes, both produced the same issue/result, so I think I can rule that out, also it is fine hot at lower speeds, only seems to be sustained driving at 50-60 that does it. 2) I...

Thanks!, I still have door tops to build up for the front, fit the 2nd row doors and build up, a front wing to be painted, rear safari door to repair and paint, and not forgetting to complete the wiring, fuel system, sort out seating, etc… so...

I had forgotten that trick. The engine has sat for a while and may have a sticking ring...so will lube and repeat. That said, there is some evidence the bores are worn with oil coming up the breather pipe. Not sure if its a "feature" or...

I just tighten them up and no thread lock if it has a spring washer. I didn't use a torque setting.

It makes life easier, means you have a track rod end you can change in minuets compared to the drop arm joint removal. There tubes are heavy duty and worth the money. If you do get the kit make sure you check the steering arm a few times after...

Me too, but it looks like you are going for a strip down and clean up anyway, rather than just getting them working quickly. I just hope that your work with taking them to bitz and ultrasonically cleaning them doesn't end up with you having to...

Thanks, it may be of help to them, but as they are an approved dealer they "ought" to know, but every little bit helps. It seems you have to take off the fan belt to change the main one. The next delay will be the European recovery agent...

Did you have to do the test dry or add a bit of oil? With a bit of oil the ring may seal

The local garage can't do anything or at least 2 weeks! But, I contacted a LR specialist near Malmedy who ISTR using about 14 years ago when a previous car blew up its torque converter. They can look at the car tomorrow and do the belt, thy've...

Thanks for the offer, but I'm after steels really. Something that doesn't look out of place on an older 110, tubeless and ok offset/width for 235/85/16s without (much) rubbing the radius arms. Thats why I was thinking wolfs/copies. If I'm...

Iv just re looked at the photo… are them carbs on backwards?? I thought accelerator cable at engine front petrol pipes on the rear If that return pipe is not fitted the bowls won’t fill with fuel. Put a bit of pipe on it or crack it open

Remember which way the fuel pipes go. The link pipe between the carbs has a restriction for the return These carbs are simple as above needles or float stuck. Gentle tap with a bit of wood on the base sometimes frees them up
